Whether you're a beginner or brushing up on fundamentals, mastering composition is essential to taking your photography from good to breathtaking. Composition is the art of arranging elements within your frame to create balance, focus, and storytelling.

No focus, No Storytelling.

Why Composition Matters

You can have the best camera in the world, but if your subject is lost in clutter or your image lacks structure, it falls flat. Composition gives your photos intention, guiding the viewer’s eye exactly where you want it to go.

Pro Tip #1 Fill the Frame

Sometimes, less background means more impact. Get closer or zoom in so your subject dominates the shot.

Pro Tip #2 Negative Space

Leave intentional space around your subject to highlight it. Negative space helps your image feel clean and purposeful.

Practice Assignment:

Take 5 photos at a park or in your yard of nature or wildlife, then use both pro tips, and take 5 more photos. What worked? What didn't? Learning to see your techniques is part of the process.
